Invitation for training

Officially the training for the upcoming MUDS has started.

For the past 2 weeks I have been disciplined in my training and made it a point that I have to go for a long ride(50km is 'long' enough for me) and a long run(the loop near the neighbourhood is 8km approx) on weekends. So far so good. No major injury except for an off-on pain in the knee. Too much too soon maybe?

Normally saturdays are Putrajaya long rides for me, and sundays will be my long runs. The rides are done with friends(so that I will feel motivated to catch them!) but the runs are done alone. I can't find anyone to run around Bangi with. Maybe anyone who is reading this would like to join me on sunday long runs around Bangi? For kicks, we can add in the Equatorial hill climb of about 1km up and 1km down. I tried it once and I panted so bad when I reached the top that I had to take a 30 second breather before descending.. yeah it's THAT BAD!

I find a few websites useful to measure the loop around the neighbourhood. At least you don't have to drive your car to measure the route(save on petrol!) and it proves to be quite accurate, too.

For runs, I use www.mapmyrun.com and for rides, I use www.mapmyride.com. And for those who just started running, Runner's World is packed with tips and also motivation, if you find it difficult to peel yourself out of the bed for the early morning runs.

Anyone game for a saturday ride and sunday run, do drop me a line at aini0360@gmail.com so that we can arrange for a ride or a run. Or even a brick :)

Disclaimer by The End

Here's the deal. As the organiser of all these events, I don't have the opportunity to run, bike, swim and dive during the events. Someone has to do make sure that things move smoothly. That person is me.

Also I have a low pain threshold. I'm also allergic to sweat especially my own.

Cycling the new 'in' thing

I was flipping through the Star recently and saw this photo sent in by a reader who might be a student at UTAR.

Take a look. I think the timing for the return of MUDS is excellent. Bicycles everywhere - and we are expecting a huge contingent from UTAR based on this 'evidence'.

Cycling is the new in thing. Yeah!

The Power People - Why Malakoff Organises MUDS

Hi, I'm Endie aka The End. I organise the duathlons, charity rides, rides and runs that Malakoff Corporation Berhad supports.

Malakoff is in the power business, and we are sometimes referred to as 'Powermen'.

But among corporate Malaysia we are known as the Power People because a much higher than average number of Malakoff people are involved in endurance sports.

We run, we bike, we swim, we dive. Okay, we also golf, sometimes but we try to keep it quiet because golf doesn't go with our Power People reputation and image.

Malakoff is not just populated by young people in their 20s, so our corporate culture of endurance sports and testing the boundaries and reserves of our stamina is unusual.

Our MD/CEO has participated and finished (this is a major achievement - ask a triathlete or a duathlete) in the Ironman Triathlon and the Powerman Duathlon series numerous times. He's in his 50s and can probably whup most 20 year olds when it comes to cycling, running and swimming.

Malakoff pioneered corporate support for the duathlon from 2002 and we have been supporting the development of this sport since.

We first held the Malakoff University Duathlon Series in 2003, with the aim of finding new talent from among university students to represent Malaysia at the international level.

Honestly, the response from students was not as good as we wanted, namely because most didn't have the all important bicycles. That has changed and the time is right for MUDS to return.

So sign up for MUDS 08 even if you're not a university student, but especially if you are. Get details at www.duathlonseries.com.my.

Can We Not?

Saying is easy, doing it is otherwise.

Started off with running around with church goers themed "Run for Nation". Then had the first try of riding with Malakoff Charity Ride 2008, now progressed to MUDS08 [thanks Malakoff].

Not sure whether could complete the run-bike-run, but will try it no matter what. "Just DU it", probably might be the only chance, life is just unpredictable.

What's M U D S 08

MUDS 08 is short for the Malakoff University Duathlon Series 2008 which will be held every Saturday from July 19 to August 2, at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), University Malaya (UM) and University Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) respectively. For details check www.duathlonseries.com.my - click on the link.

There are 3 categories - university, open and team.

The duathlon is a multisport event - run-bike-run.

I'm new to biking, don't have the legs for running and I'm looking for someone who can run well, run fast and doesn't have a bike who, can be my partner for the team category.

email me if you're the run : muds08@gmail.com.

Sentral: UPNM tuan rumah sukan lasak

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) bakal melakar sejarah apabila menjadi tuan rumah peringkat akhir kejohanan Malakoff University Duathlon Series 2008 (MUDS 2008), pada 2 Ogos depan.
