Stats > Second Leg at UM Steadily Drew More Attention

Hoorey, we're so pleased that the second leg of MUDS held at UM was conceivably more "happening"... There were more participants and also more supports... We could see parents and family members cheering, participating best friends sightseeing in Taman Rimba as well as a few participating "couples" enjoying the lovely atmosphere across the "Bukit Cinta"... By several means, thanks also to the previous leg held at UKM, which stimulates the interest of more passionate du-ers and enthusiastic supporters in UM... Hopefully this will continue to rise ahead of the finale...

Here's the encouraging fraction of participants according to the category:

Men's University - 60

Women's University - 14

Men's Open - 115

Women's Open - 32

Men's Relay - 15 teams

Mixed Relay - 15 teams

Media - 8

TOTAL Individuals = 229

TOTAL Teams = 30

TOTAL PARTICIPANTS = 319

You see the statistics and let's call for more participants especially the women and university students...

Give your supports and feel the excitement...

What you look like after completing a duathlon

Here's what you look like after completing a duathlon.

Okay, not everyone looks this happy but he was one of the top five for the men's open - good reason for the smile on his face.

The mark of the cyclist - caution tan lines ahead

You can tell the serious cyclist at a glance.

Check for the tan lines - like these or on the upper arm.

Despite the free flow of sunblock during the warm up, the UV rays are pretty strong.

The Duathlon, It is not without its dangers

MUDS 2008 is a heck load of fun but there are dangers as this is a competitive sport.

Here is an example of what can happen in the adrenaline rush.

Thanks to the racer who allowed her injuries to be photographed.

The pix taken in the forest/Rimba Ilmu are pretty cool - if you're one of those captured leave a messaage in or if you know the racer who was photographed invite them to take a look.

MUDS 08 2nd Leg - part 3

I've tried to photograph everyone and anyone but there has been a wee bit more emphasis on the leaders.

Check the photostream once it is up to see your happy smiling faces; and also the grimaces of pain, and the occasional showboating.

Start of MUDS 08 2nd Leg - Part 2

Still more of you
There were moments when I feared the stampede but you were quite polite and considerate - thanks
And still in endless droves
It's not how you start, but how you finish

Start of MUDS 08 2nd Leg part 1

At the start line
And they're off
And more of them
Jostling for position
So many of you on Saturday!

MUDS 08 - My Favorite Picture

First view

The pounding those poor footsies are taking!

All is revealed, well almost

MUDS 08 second leg was more exciting if that is possible than the first leg. More racers, more supporters, tougher course, more nailbiting results. And a very fast time by the winners too.

Pakui will be updating on the top five finishers of each category tomorrow - with pix. In the meantime full results are available at www.duathlonseries.com.my. And Sam and Muddy will be uploading lots of pix.

Here is my favorite - the Kaki Ayam series. I was so impressed by this racer and seriously concerned about how his poor feet would feel after the race.

A shout out to this racer for his determination! That's the Malakoff University Duathlon Series spirit.

China Press: Malakoff In Search of New Talents

Friendly Reminder > Top Honours in the MUDS 08 Second Leg at University of Malaya, Are Back Up For Grabs!

Salaam to all du-ers,

It's Friday and oops, PowerBar Duathlon Clinic @ Pusat Sukan UM is this afternoon... At large, the exciting event comes again tomorrow... Yahooooo, the second leg of MUDS 08 at UM can be where we meet again our "friendly enemies", hehe... Remember MUDS 08 is a healthy competition...

Today, Friday the 25th, participants are cordially encouraged to the Clinic... Today is also crucial when the competing du-ers are all jaga makan, jaga tidur, jaga diri etc...

Kindly be reminded, like last week's Saturday morning, participants should collect their race number, the latest would be by 7.30am... all MUDS o8 activities are going to take place in Pusat Sukan UM... by all means, ought to try not to forget the place as well as the time...

Participants are also reminded to be within the start line area about an hour before the race start because we're afraid some could miss or mishear the short race briefing around that time...

OK hereby, the second leg of MUDS 08 at Pusat Sukan UM on SATURDAY, JULY 26, 2008, will START AT 9.00am, SHARP!!!

BE EXCITED TOMORROW AND ENJOY YOURSELVES!!! SEE EVERYBODY!!!

wassalaam...

MUDS UKM that was...

I was supposed to compete that day but because my lovely colleagues loved me too much, I was adviced not to join the race to save myself for PD triathlon the next day.

Oh well, there's 2 more duathlons coming up, right? Hopefully I am able to join either one.

OK back to saturday's story..

From left: Malakoff Corp. Berhad's MD/CEO, En Ahmad Jauhari , LeTua's coach, En. Rahim, Endie, Hamid and Azli

As usual music were blaring from the speakers to give the 'party' atmosphere. Every race still gives the participants the nerves no matter how long they have been in the game. Having some distractions and friendly chats and banters with the others do help keep the anxiety under wraps.

National duathlete, Mariana and Stephanie Chok with yours truly

The morning was cloudy and we were expecting rain or at least a drizzle to happen in the race. I don't know which is worse, to race in the rain or the blazing sun. Cloudy is good, but please no rain. Steph was joking with Mariana, "We'd better finish this race before it rains.. hehe.." You are pro, girl, of course you can finish it fast. Well, it's definitely better than racing in the scorching sun.

If racing in the rain, just open your mouth for water.. don't need to stop at the water stations maa.. hehe

Starting line frenzy

The racers gathered at the Start line a few minutes before 9 a.m. Adele blew the horn at the start of the event. Many ran as fast as they could while some held back and paced themselves wisely. This is a multipart sports. Think endurance, not short-term glory, i.e. finishing the first run fastest, then suffering on the bike and puking on the second run.

Things seemed to run smoothly and the racers looked like pro, although some might be first-timers and as usual, kekalutan memang tidak dapat dielakkan, i.e. forgetting to take off running cap before putting on the helmet.. Hmm, it wasn't even sunny, why do you need a cap on? Well, maybe it was out of habit, it's OK, no worries.

Cycling and second run were done in the rain for some racers. It's part and parcel of racing. Organizers can help to manage the transition areas, water stations, food, but weather was beyond anyone's control.

At least they had a cool climate to race in ;)

Some finished faster than others :)

Most of Malakoff Cycling Club members did well. One puked 3 times and had to DNF(did not finish). He was not used to running and probably thought running 3km was do-able without training.

Youngest participant, 12-year-old Darimi with his parents, Mejar Kalam and Nurina

Congratulations to all Finishers! I know all of you had a great time and were glad you didn't sleep in on a saturday morning :)

Next race - MUDS @ UM this saturday.

Are you ready yet?

Thanks to their chipping in: Potential best duathletes from UiTM showed some impactful appearance as well

The ex-UiTM fellows add zing to MUDS 08 at UKM. Thanks a lot.

Watch out, UTM's duathlon princess may show a more forceful performance in MUDS 08 upcoming legs.

A well-deserved round of applause to UPNM clan who've showed up a great force at UKM. Keep it up! Yet, "our blogging team" challenge the rest to try to surpass their great showings. Go everybody!

And the key credit goes to MALAKOFF!!!

Tons of gratitude to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

A million thanks to PowerBar.

Great appreciations to Quick Release Adventures.

Also significant admirations to everyone who makes MUDS 08 a great event, essentially, all participants and media. See everyone in following legs.

Izwan Md Sumairi from TV3, effectively put his name at top in the "scoreboard" of the Media Category

Utusan Malaysia is also proud with their two members spot themselves among the top three finishers in the Media Category. Well done!
